in Birmingham

It seems like everyone’s belt is tightening and the wallets across the nation are so rarely opened that they have begun to creak, but fun can come on a budget, and I have put together a number of things in Birmingham that can be done with just £10!

The Birmingham International Food Fair is Birmingham’s most popular annual event. Completely free to attend and with this year looking bigger and better than ever, a visit to the cobbled streets of Victoria and Chamberlain squares, between the 9th and 19th of June is one event that you won’t want to miss! With food from around the globe, a trip to the Birmingham International Food Fair will tease, tantalise and delight your taste buds!

For the ultimate in indulgence you could chose to have a highly trained beautician from Beauty Essentials visit you in the comfort of your home. I know what you are thinking, but really, there are numerous treatments available for £10 and under! Choose a mini facial, an eyelash tint, eyebrow shaping or a partial wax? (OUCH!) All in the comfort of your own home and all for less than the price of a takeaway!

But if you want to stay away from pain and over indulging in food, the Electric Cinema offers history, romance, passion and intrigue under just one roof. The UK’s oldest working cinema, the Electric has personality, as well as the best films. Combining the latest films with classics from over the decades, the Electric cinema offers a programme like no other! With standard seats costing just £6.80, a trip to the cinema will never be the same again!

If you fancy going down the more educational route than a trip to the Jewellery Quarter Museum can’t be missed! Just £4 for adults and with children under 16 allowed in for free, enjoy a guided tour around a real jewellery factory that has changed so little over the past century. Enjoy demonstrations of jewellery making techniques and discover the ‘Earth’s Riches’ gallery, a wonderful display of jewellery made from material found in the natural world. From whale tooth to coral, diamond and platinum, the sheer wonder of the natural world really does come to life within the beautiful ‘Earth’s Riches’ gallery. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 4.00pm, and located at 75-79 Vyse Street, the Jewellery Quarter Museum is rich in Birmingham’s unique cultural heritage.

This is just the tip of the iceberg and Birmingham is home to a whole host of incredible days out and activities. For less money than you think, you could have a day out to remember!
